Pokémon GO Zapdos Raid Guide: GO Tour Kanto

Make the most of the Legendary Raids this weekend with our Pokémon GO Zapdos Raid Guide.

Pokémon GO Tour Kanto is just around the corner, and while it’s a great ticketed event, there are still lots to do if you don’t want to spend any money. One of the highlights of the free-to-play friendly events is the return of the original Legendary Birds to Raids.

Pokémon GO Zapdos Raid Guide: GO Tour Kanto

Pokémon GO Tour Kanto will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on February 20. During this time, you’ll be able to battle the Legendary Birds Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos in Legendary Raids.

The best part? The birds caught during the event will know their Legacy Moves. These powerful moves became available after Niantic’s numerous balance updates. Often, a Legacy Move will make a good Pokémon great or amazing. Zapdos goes from amazing to ridiculous.

Pokémon GO Zapdos Counters

Zapdos is a dual Electric and Flying type Pokémon. It’s weak to Rock and Ice attacks. A strong Rock type attacker like Rhyperior or Tyranitar will make short work of Zapdos. Dual Rock and Ground types like Rhyperior get bonus points, since the Ground part resists Zapdos’s primary Electric type attacks.

Watch out if you pack an Ice type like Weavile or Mamoswine, as Zapdos does have access to the Rock type Ancient Power that would likely ruin your day.

Pokémon GO Thunder Shock

Zapdos’s Legacy Move is Thunder Shock, which doesn’t sound particularly stunning. Thunder Shock actually turns Zapdos into a monster, giving it incredible energy recharge to fuel its strong Charge Moves like Thunderbolt and Drill Peck. Thunder Shock even does more damage that Charge Beam, giving you no reason to not have it on Zapdos. Raikou may have replaced Zapdos as the Electric lord of Pokémon GO, but Thunder Shock restores much of its lost luster.
